Entry #1: The First Newspapers

There are many obvious differences bewtween our newspapers today, and the way they were years ago. For example, years ago, the newspapers did not have many pictures, today, mostly each article has a picture to go along with the write-up. If the old newspapers did have a picture though, it was black and white, today, our pictures are in color.
Many newspapers today are critical and still continue to publish, because years ago, government or expressing your opinion did not seem to be as popular, for example, women were not even allowed to vote until later on. Also, if people had a problem with someone or something, they did not just write it down; they turned to violence. Today, people have the right to express their feelings and thoughts, and if they have a problem, writing it down takes some of the anger away.
When I learned that the first Canadian newspaper was published in Halifax, I was not at all surprised, because Halifax played a big role in our country years ago. For example, when the Titanic sunk, the surviving people were sent to Halifax for care, and the not so fortunate people were buried right in the city of Halifax. Also, many people from over seas, and across the world migrated to Halifax long ago.
